Welcome to the world, baby!

I'm a new auntie! Welcome Rhett Vance Pope, born May 26th at 2:57 p.m. weighing in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces and 19 inches long. His proud parents are Ronny's brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Misty, who live in El Dorado, KS.

This is quite the story of how Russell and Misty were blessed with this little guy.

Russell and Misty have been trying to have a baby for a long time (they've been married almost 10 years). They actually were able to get pregnant a couple of years ago, but lost Baby J about 4 months into the pregnancy. Since then, Russell and Misty have been working on getting certified to be foster parents, as well as working with a private adoption agency lawyer in Wichita.

Russell and Misty found out early spring that their profile with the adoption lawyer had been picked by a young girl who was wishing to find a good home for her baby. They were excited (well we all were!) but were very cautious because the adoption could fall through if the mother decided to keep him.

But Rhett was meant to to be a Pope and Russell and Misty were able to bring him home yesterday.

There are still a few legal things for them to overcome with the adoption, including going to court in 30 days, but we're going to pray that everything works out great...because God has already blessed them with this amazing little guy! Ronny and I can't wait to meet him in a few weeks!!

Here's a few more pictures:

Rhett is being held by his cousin Brandon, and next to his other two cousins (Ronny's sisters kiddos), Blake and Vanessa.

I hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend and remember that it's not all about the grilling and vacation. We can celebrate Memorial Day for all of the veterans who served our country for our freedom. I am currently sitting in Chicago at the airport (leaving STL for home) and have participated in applauds for soldiers going through the airport....such a cool thing! Thanks for remembering this weekend.
